"I originally went to the Dugout in the fall of 2020 because it was one of the only restaurants open. It was in the darkest of the days of COVID. I was bouncing off the walls in a new-to-me part of Richmond, Virginia, with NO close-by friends, absolutely NOTHING to do, NOWHERE to go. This businessowner, Timmy, was one of the smart ones who did what he had to do help his business survive the crisis ~ he built a patio.

I continue to go to the Dugout because when I did, I met the most AMAZING eclectic group of people, sometimes I literally crave the food (Tuesday night burgers!), there is always SOMETHING going on (because sometimes I don't want to talk, I just like to watch people), AND, most importantly, I always feel safe. If I'm in the Dugout late at night it's because I've carefully taken my time to get to know the incredible owners and staff. I KNOW they're not going to let anything happen to me or anyone else. At the risk of sounding like I'm there every night (I'm not!), I have to say it may very well feel sometimes like a second home.

For the record, by eclectic I mean softball players, singers, bikers, young professionals, college students, bar-flies, travelers. All types. Depending on the day. Pay attention to the activities, karaoke, trivia, sing-o, live music, and you'll find what you're looking for, in comfort."

"Since they changed the main area to non smoking, it's great. Been going there since a teenager. Nice neighborhood bar. Stopped going due to smoke. But, thank goodness, new owners changed it up. Put a bar where pool table was for smokers and now can enjoy Karaoke and not leave smelling like an ashtray."
